So your car is due for a service- why? what will they do when its there? I don’t drive much do I still need to service my car? My car is running well, why does it need a service? All of these questions are valid and you probably ask yourself these and other questions when that little spanner appears on your dash. Well I am here today to tell you why it is important to service your car, and why its important that good quality parts and products are used and what Schneider Mechanical’s Value Proposition is.
Why Should I service my car?
Well if your car is under new car warranty, and there are many manufacturers that have 5 or 7 year warranties, your car has to be serviced in accordance with your log book to maintain the warranty. OK, so if your car isn’t under new car warranty, why do you still need to service it? Well the simple answer is, if you want your car to keep running smoothly it needs clean oil and a new oil filter. With out these the moving parts in the engine won’t have the lubrication it needs. The filter needs to be clean so it can catch any dirt that is in the oil. Included in most services is a full safety inspection, which you will want, as your brakes and tyres need to be checked regularly otherwise you are putting your safety at risk. Now this is a very simplistic view of what happens in a service. Let’s look a little deeper and see why it is important to have not only a service but good quality parts used.
What happens in a service?
So like I said before, in a service, the technician will do a safety check. This is a full inspection of the vehicle. In our workshop that is done digitally and can be emailed or texted to you so you can see everything that has been checked. In addition to this the oil and filter is changed. Now having the right grade oil and good quality oil is essential. Oil doesn’t just lubricate it cleans as well. There are additives added into the oil so using the correct grade oil is important as each engine needs different additives. The oil filter needs to be of good quality. The filtration rates of the different brands vary and you want the one that has the highest filtration rate and largest holes on the top to maintain the highest flow rate of oil into your engine to maintain your engine. All other fluids, such as brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant and washer fluid, get topped up and tyres are pumped and rotated if needed. Knowing that your car is in good working condition reduces any anxiety that you might have whilst driving. Finding and fixing issues that are there before you break down will keep you on the road.
In order to keep a car for any length of time, regular servicing is an integral part of car maintenance and safety. In a society that is starting to change it’s mindset on sustainability, maintaining a car to increase its length of life, reduces its environmental impact. People always say that cars aren’t made as well as they used to be, but I believe people don’t maintain their cars as well as they used to.
Value Proposition
So lets look at this from a slightly more technical perspective. What is the value proposition of you having your car serviced and specifically at Schneider Mechanical. A value proposition as stated by Catherine Cote from Harvard Business School (2020) is a “statement that conveys what a brand does and how it differs from competitors.” At Schneider Mechanical we only use the best products on the market, making sure we use the correct grade oil and the best filters. We understand how important this is for the longevity of the car and its engine. Doing a through inspection and giving the customer all the information they need to make an informed decision is integral in our organization. Our Value Proposition is that we provide excellent quality work at reasonable prices and to do this using the correct products and maintaining the vehicles is paramount to what we do.
