The World of The Mechanical Mum

The Mechanical Mum was an idea I thought of whilst during COVID and working insane hours at our family owned mechanical workshop. One thing I noticed was how little the general public, but in particular, women knew about cars and car repairs. During my interactions with our customers, the consistent message that I got from them was how much they appreciated the time I took to explain what was needed on their cars and why before we undertook the repairs. The Mechanical Mum blog and subsequent social media accounts were born from this desire to educate the general public in laymen’s terms.

So I started writing. The blog has been well received, however it wasn’t taking off as much as I would have liked. So I started looking into ways that could help promote not only the blog but our business as well. The more I could educate people the easier our job could be. After doing some research, I found that digital marketing can increase brand awareness by as much as 80% (Marino, S 2023). So, if it could increase my brand by 80% it was worth investing some time and money into and it would not only benefit The Mechanical Mum, but Schneider Mechanical as well.

Ok, so now I knew I wanted to use digital marketing as a tool, what or where do I need to start. Lucy Alexander from the Hubspot has written a fabulous blog on the “Who, What, Why and How of digital marketing” (Alexander, L 2022). In this blog she explains the advantages of using digital platforms, one being that results are measurable. Being able to see the increase in engagement with my audience means I can tailor the content to what my audience wants to read and learn about. It also means that the content can be targeted to specific audiences, a huge advantage when time is limited. These posts can then be added to with pay per click and backlinks to other sites, potentially increase the coverage of The Mechanical Mum. Anything I do on this platform is directly linked to Schneider Mechanical and is then shared on those sites as well.

Utilizing digital marketing as our main marketing tool, allows for efficient use of time and limited topics. It also allows us to create campaigns for Schneider Mechanical that are relevant at the time of year or the type of work we are looking for.
